Anonymous asked: That might seem a little rude, but why the hell did you have to pick a sheep? In french culture, it's THE symbol of conformism (jeez, most people don't even know what conformism means and just use sheep instead). As a sociologist, one of the reasons I chose to study social norms was to break free from them, not embrace them! The sheep might be an ironic icon, but it still annoys me -- bah, at least we have our own meme, and you took time to design it, gotta be grateful for that.

It’s the same deal in UK culture (and the US too I think) that the sheep represents conformity.

As it says in the FAQ, I picked the sheep as a (somewhat basic and juvenile) Structure v. Agency joke. It seemed like the animal most fitting for a Sociology meme when the animal is used to represent crowds and crowd behaviour (in some ways at least).

So yeah, it’s a weak joke.

But the sheep looks so sassy, and I’m especially fond of sassy looking animals.
